- The Charts VN#57 -

Hosted by Jonatan "Macx" FG & David "Jazzcat" Simmons.

Welcome to another chapter of The Charts. A section of the magazine that craves user participation in order to be valid and interesting. The Charts in a diskmag reflects the minds of the sceners in a much more dynamic sense than the top lists of aggregating votes at CSDb. However, in order for The Charts to be a sound and contemporary comment it is necessary that the readers fill out the ascii votesheets that are sent out prior to the voting deadline. The sheet count for this issue was 29.

In order to secure you receive a votesheet for the upcoming issues of VN, please send an email to macx64(*)gmail. The ascii votesheet is usually combined with questions for the Opinion Poll.

Let me remind the participating reader that you are not allowed to lay a vote on yourself, your own release, your groups release or other members of your group or groups.

Only what or who has received more than one vote is presented in The Charts. Otherwise it is pretty straight forward, so here we go...

TOP DEMO GROUPS:

Booze Design    408
Crest     208
Fairlight    192
Oxyron     176
Offence    128
Resource   72
Triad     48
Camelot    42
Chorus     40
Arise     16
Instinct    12
Plush     12
Arsenic    8

Celebrating 20 years, Booze Design has come a long way since Spik i Foten. Receiving almost double the points of number 2, no one is in any doubt of who is the favourite demo group around. Instinct is no more, as their members signed up with the above mentioned posse. I wonder if Offence will rise further, same could be said for Camelot and Arsenic. Will Plush's new demo push them back up the ladder for another fight? Will Genesis*Project be a demo force once more? I miss some guys here, but happy to see some old faces returning (hello Hoaxers!).

Groups voted for, but that did not make it into the charts include Censor and Panda Design, Horizon, Speedfisters, Xenon, Judas, Dekadence, Maniacs of Noise, Padua and Shape.

This is the most popular chart these days, we have a good balance of demo parties and a stage is set for the battle to continue!

TOP CODERS:

HCL     356
Crossbow    198
Graham     176
JackAsser    112

Krill     64
Axis     48

WVL     32
Kribust    24
Cruzer     20
Edhellon    20
GRG     20
Peiselulli    12
Puterman    12

The highly respected coders reflect the top demo groups... Glasnost is coming back and what about the other camels? Conjuror is climbing but excluded to obey the rules. Graham has been here for a long time and same with Crossbow... time to move over old men, some new kids are coming through that have a stronger passion.

C64 programmers voted for, but received too few votes to make it into the list are NEO, Nightlord, Stirf, Ed, Sailor, MagerValp, Oswald, Algorithm, Fenek, Honesty, Ninja and T.M.R. My friend from Hannover, Street Tuff, deserves a place here. Nice to see Mahoney is being recognised, what will he come up with next?

TOP MUSICIANS:

Dane     160
Jeff     156
Drax     150
Linus     120
Geir Tjelta    88

Stein Pedersen    36
Goto80     32
Wiklund    28
Flex     24
Ole Marius Pettersen   24
Ne7     20
A-Man     8

Now that Jeff has new-found inspiration, we can expect some more music and with the rebirth of Camelot! SIDwave is climbing higher all the time (read his very interesting interview!) and the end tune from Toxyc Taste by Fanta is just oozing atmosphere (included it in this edition). Watch those Prosonix dudes climb this ladder! Also one of the new generation, Wiklund, is expected to climb too.

Just missing out were Hein, Kasmo, Maktone, Mr.Death, Rob Hubbard, Agemixer, Booker, JCH, Magnar, Martin Galway, PRI, RadiantX, Brandon Walsh, F.A.M.E., RaveGuru, Shogoon, Tim Follin, X-Jammer, ATOO and Henne.

TOP GRAPHICIANS:

Mermaid    292
Archmage    242
Veto     156
Mirage     104
Carrion    64
Leon     60
STE'86     52
Ptoing     44
Yazoo     44
Frost     36
DeeKay     32
Electric    32
Duce     28
JSL     28
PAL     28
Jailbird    20
Louie64    20
Sander     12

The pixel battles continue, the main arena these days is CSDb, strong activity from STE'86, Veto and all those thought-provoking "Rambo" entries that were inspired by Twoflower's LCP entry. Votes for "Mirage" and "Lars" have been combined, Joe has been removed despite gaining quite some votes as we want to remain neutral of course, check out his well-deserved wins at the recent Arok and LCP events. Mermaid is on top of the chart, her recent activities through the hyper-active Genesis*Project has given her a renewed outlet for her pixels. PAL should be WAAAAY higher.

People just missing out were Piesiu, Valsary, Cruise, Helm, Maktone, Poison, Crossbow, Dane and Hollowman. Come on voters, vote for active people and remember Crossbow is either not real or is actually just DeeKay in disguise.

TOP CRACKER GROUPS:

Nostalgia    268
Triad     216
Genesis Project   148
Remember    92
Avatar     84
Armageddon    32
Eagle Soft Inc.   32
Fairlight    28
Dynamic Duo    20
Ikari     20
Excess     12

Onslaught have been removed, Genesis*Project are climbing quite hard, especially with their first release flurry in the month of July. What a month that was with Onslaught, G*P, Armageddon, Avatar and more all having some Viagra and showing the size of their penis in an oldschool way, read more about this in this edition's The List.

Nostalgia are on a deserved numero uno with Triad close behind, I have almost forgotten Remember these days when I should be remembering them! Also, Hokuto Force, WOW, Laxity and others, wake up from your coma!

Not included but so, so close were... Danish Crackers, Danish Gold, Hokuto Force, Razor 1911, Yeti Factories, 1001 Crew, Hackersoft, Hotline, Censor Design, Chrilles Cracking Crew, Laxity and WOW. Now, now! Razor, what the hell? Gimme that bag, you have taken enough out of it, give that pipe of yours a rest!

That concludes The Charts for issue 57 of your favourite Commodore 64 disk magazine. These top lists reflect the current ongoings in the scene and is for this reason something much different than the votes at various online fora. The total amount of votes over a much longer period competing with fever votes for a new release can make the list seem unjust - a problem you will never encounter in The Charts as a reset button is pressed with each new issue. Make sure you sign up for receiving the ascii votesheets in time for the next voting deadline, it is imperative in order to make this chapter valid. See the introductory text for further details.
