- The Gubbdata Initiation -
A personal party report from Isterparty 2011 by Jonatan "Macx" FG.

A couple of weeks prior to Isterparty 2011 I picked up a big load of c64 hardware and a few diskboxes from what had been an old Commodore club in Strib, western Funen island, Denmark. The hardware is awaiting the building of T.U.D.D. while being stuffed away in a safe place in Scania, whereas the disks was brought to the small party in Lund in order to be preserved.

The invitro for the event, introducing the concept of Gubbdata to a wider audience had been released and the mood was set. When I drove into the yard of the partyplace, held only a few hundred metres from the academic and the cultural centre of Lund (some would argue the whole of Daneland, and perhaps even Scandinavia) where I once almost took my BA in Philosophy. It was around three in the afternoon and besides Hedning, Itch, myself and Emil, only youths were gathered. The new generation of computer users were tucked away in a room next door as their main interest seemed to focus around consuming games with various spatial oddities.

Soon more of us old geezers arrived and Mahoney, Joe, Itch and I decided to go for some grub and Gubbdata socialising. When we came back to the party place more had arrived and many had introduced themselves to DwCave/Spermk'anale. Meanwhile rumours were circulating around the coming demo releases at the event, and some even talked about a release mediating in the war between Fairlight and Genesis Project. However, as Oxidy still had not shown his face in the hall of data it was no way a premature release could be shown on the big screen. It was after all expected that Hedning and Oxidy would act as substitutes in the conflict and settle it once and for all when the demo had been shown.

Isterparty is held at a school where Hedning works as a teacher. In addition to this, the kids busy playing games over LAN were his students and not in an age where drinking is allowed. For these reasons the consumption of alcohol was held at local pubs, and the main public house for the first evening was the Bishops Arms opposite the library. When I ventured there for a Guinness I met up with Avalon, Oxidy, Joe, Ed and Itch and soon persuaded them to return for some "no compo democompo".

It was Friday, an hour prior to midnight, and the geezers with old computers were set. A hurried decision was made to have constant flow of demos from the party, and thus allowing the premature release of what already had been finished. The hall was dark, and the sceners were ready.

First up was a release from Onslaught entitled FLT(heart)G*P which implied that Fairlight and Genesis Project should kiss and make up on a background of the smoothest of plasmas.

Next was a release by G*P called So Retro in which Hedning and Mermaid picks up the torch of appraising scrolltexts - our way of telling stories - and I am proud to have you both on my side in this battle. The demo is accompanied by a magnificent tune by Mr.Death.

The last demo to be shown on the 22nd, as midnight was approaching, was Connected by Mermaid. Isophants, a neat picture and slow-mo tune was good for when the Ghost Hour came.

Other releases from Isterparty was the obvious partyscroller called Fett, which mainly was put together by Itch and Avalon. The Rotator, a petscii cock, from out of the cellars of Hack n' Trade, from where a tune also came. Joe gave us a pretty easteregg/dollface picture and then the releases were no more.

When we woke up the next morning we ventured over to Grandmother's Bakery to get some morning grub. When we came back to the hall another few hours were collectively spent on data'ing and watching ninja flicks. During the afternoon however, people started to drop off and as it seems most had only planned on staying one night.

The few of us that remained kept fostering the new generation into hardcore data and why modern machines are nothing but slaves, and a few of those youngsters seemed to grasp what it is all about. There where five or six of us left for the evening pint and meal at a local diner, and we then returned to data late into the warm spring night.

Me and Hedning also spent a few hours discussing the concept of Gubbdata, a reasoning that was continued also the coming morning, again at Grandmother's Bakery. This was an important thing as I have been using the prefix Gubb a few years, on other accounts, and we needed to get our wrinkly brains thoroughly agreed.
